| | Forever Young - Youth Group | ] | Spring Break is over... only one more left before I am out of school. I ended up staying in NY for break, but I vow to take a real spring break trip next year. Maybe the bahamas, or costa rica... we'll see. I'm going somewhere.
That said, I had a really fun spring break. Sean, Nick, and Matt came out from Cali for St Patty's Day and we had a blast. Lots of darts, pool, drinking, hanging out, etc. We were going to head down to philly for cheesesteaks but didnt get our act together. Still, it was a great trip.
It's also March Madness, which is the greatest time of year. I've spent a ton of hours over the last few days watching basketball, and now can't wait for Thursday to resume my viewing.
My goal was to play 2,000 hands of poker over break and I didn't get close... oh well. I got in one good session of 400 hands and made a few hundred dollars, so that was productive at least. I was running very hot and hit quite a few big draws.
While I didn't play enough poker, I did clean my entire apartment and build some new furniture for my room. My next goal is to finally decorate my walls. Any suggestions? I think I'm going to the museum on Friday to wander around and hopefully pick up a poster or two of something I like. I'm also getting a plant for my windowsill. Not sure I'm ready for it, but here goes...
I also got my butt outside a lot. I'm up to running 3-4 miles 4 days a week. My goal is to run a half marathon this summer. I still have a way to go, but I've lost 15-20 pounds since winter break and am feeling great. Amazing what a little exercise does for you.
Finally, Ken Gerold arrives this upcoming weekend, and it promises to be legendary. I am counting the days...
And that's that. |

 | You scored as James Bond, Agent 007. James Bond is MI6's best agent, a suave, sophisticated super spy with charm, cunning, and a license's to kill. He doesn't care about rules or regulations and somewhat amoral. He does care about saving humanity though, as well as the beautiful women who fill his world. Bond has expensive tastes, a wide knowledge of many subjects, and his usually armed with a clever gadget and an appropriate one-liner.

| Fantasy Basketball |
[Oct. 18th, 2005|03:14 pm] |
Just drafted my team for my fantasy basketball league... seems pretty sick. Roto league, stats are FG%, FT%, 3PM, Points, Rebs, Assists, Steals, Blocks, and Turnovers. Positions: P, SG, G, PF, SF, F, C, C, UTIL, UTIL with 3 bench spots.
Team:
PG: Andre Miller SG: Vince Carter G: Quentin Richardson PF: Drew Gooden SF: Lebron James F: Kyle Korver C: Shaquile O'Neal C: Marcus Camby U: Antoine Walker U: Eddie Jones
Bench:
Sebastian Telfair Shaun Livingston Michael Finley
Q-Rich might be terrible this year in NY.. Marbury takes a lot of shots, and their offense is just very different from Phoenix's Also, his sub-40% FG% is not exactly great, so I think Finley will be splitting a lot of time with him. Hopefully Telfair or Livingston explode this year to give me some help. I will probably pick up Brevin Knight at some point to bolster assists.

| | Remy Zero - Fair | ] | Hola...
Haven't updated in a while... lots going on but nothing too earthshaking. Classes, interviews, classes, reading, classes. Doesn't make for great reading. I'm trying to transition back into the whole "student" routine. So far my classes have been pretty interesting, which helps with that. I have no classes on Fridays, which I am really enjoying. Callbacks will be winding down after next week, so I have to move from interview mode to figuring out where I want to work. I now officially have options for next summer as I have two offers, which is very exciting.
I will be heading back to California for the 23-25th of Sept., so hopefully I can see a bunch of people while there. It is a tough trek to jump back for just a weekend, but it should be fun.
Nothing else too big to report. |

| | curious | ] | Blinds are at 25-50. I am SB, 6 players left. I've busted out 3 players and am generally running over the table, currently with ~4000 in chips. BB has ~1350 and is a straight forward player, button has ~2100 and has overplayed top pair twice so far.
Folded to dealer, he raises to 200. I call with KT diamonds, BB calls.
Flop comes Qd Ts 4s. (Pot 600)
I check, planning on check raising, and it is checked around.
Turn is Jd.
I lead out 250, BB min raises to 500, button reraises to 1300.
Pot has 2650, BB has an additional 650, dealer has 600 more, and I have 3550 left.
I hit the tank. From his body language, BB is obviously calling. I have to call 1050 more, so I am currently getting a little better than 2.5 : 1. Once the BB gets his 650 in, I am getting priced at 3.1 to 1. Button is committed, so I am certain if I hit I am getting that 600 on the river. So my thinking at the table was I am getting around 3.7 : 1 on the call, as I am freerolling dealer's last 600 since I can fold and save 600 if I don't improve.
I couldnt think of what hands dealer would check with on the flop and not try to pick it up, but would then put in a monster reraise on this turn. It was a coordinated flop that could definitely hit someone, and he didnt even take a stab at it. I thought he might be trying to trap with a monster. I put him on a set, two pair, or a hand like mine. He also could have hit his straight, but I thought it likely he would try and pick the pot up on the flop with the gutshot draw as a semibluff.
I counted my outs as follows:
There are 9 diamonds left. However, if the 4 of diamonds hits, it could easily make someone a boat, and it is likely with this action that I am up against a set from one of the players, so I discounted the 4 to only be a weak .5 outs.
There are 4 aces, 1 of which makes my flush, the spade giving me the straight but making the other flush, and the other two giving me the nut straight that splits with any K. It is possible that the initial reraise was by a hand like mine but of spades, so I gave myself 2 outs on the three Aces (the spade Ace loses value for making spade flush, plus potential for split pot from the clean aces).
For the nines, which would also make my straight, I gave myself 2 outs for the four remaining nines (diamond already counted, spade dirty, split with king).
That makes 8.5 diamond outs, 2 Ace out, 2 nine outs, making 12.5 outs total. I would need 3.7 : 1 to call.
